A turn-of-the-century (1890-1920) neighborhood like Roland Park, with its large historic homes, needs a turn-of-the century-style hardware store to maintain its significance. That store is Schneider’s Hardware, a small but popular destination for residents looking for personal service along with their supplies. Since the 1940s, Schneider’s at 700 Wyndhurst Avenue has been here and run by the same family. An even older family grocery store pre-dated the hardware store in this location, making this business one of the oldest family businesses in the city… And in recent years a gift store in the building’s carriage house has opened to offer more than hardware.
