Johns Hopkins Hospital’s landmark building on Broadway is historic in its right, but a marker in front of the building explains more… This street was a part of the route General George Washington took during his “triumphant journey” from New York to Annapolis to resign as Commander-in-Chief of the first “American Army” from December 3-23, 1783. The route is known as “The General’s Highway.” (Washington, of course, later served as president from 1789 to 1797.)
